Dear friends,
on 3rd of April the Cressa Ghitonia Village opens its doors again
and invites you on a journey to the "Authentic Crete"! This year, we have
our seasonal opening on the first weekend of April (3-5.04.2015), with a rich
program of activities, which revive the customs and habits of the Cretan life
in 1800.
Our goal is
to give the opportunity to our guests, through an integrated package of
experiences to live the local traditions and the unique lifestyle of Eastern
Crete.
Analytically, our program includes:
1. Knitting with Needles & Crochet.
After we learn about the history and importance of the textile in Crete, the
next hour we learn to knit! At the end of the course everyone will know how to
make accessories / clothes with basic knitting needles and crochet.
2. Traditional Games. Every day for an
hour we learn and play different games from the past. We present two at a time
and play.
3. The Positive Effects of gossip. We discuss
the importance and the positive impact of gossip in psychology and
socialization.
4. Cretan Culture / Cretan History. We
discuss the evolution of Cretan civilization through history.
5. Traditional Dances of Crete & Greece.
Every day for an hour or so, we learn the steps of local dances in conjunction
with the history, creation, origin and whatever accompanies them. By the end of
three hours we will have learnt more than 10 dances.
6. Handmade jewelry. We learn to make
jewelry from materials that we all have at home. At the end of the course will
take us a jewel that we will have made by our own.
7. Customs of Crete. Lecture and
discussion about the customs of Crete and their maintenance until today.
8. Myths and Superstitions. Lecture and
discussion on Historical / Religious superstitions and myths that have affected
the everyday life of Cretans.
9. Crafts. We learn how we can make traditional
decorative items.
10. Cretan Apparel. Lecture - Discussion
about the Cretan Apparel and how it was affected by the passage of time.
11. Cretan Musical Instruments / “Mantinades”.
Lecture - Discussion about the Cretan Music and the characteristic local “Mantinades”.
